My first Maclean’s magazine arrived in the mail this week. I decided that I had to get a subscription to some sort of Canadian news source since I know, embarrassingly, fuck all about what is going on in my country. (I considered a newspaper subscription, but those are so exorbitantly priced! Stupid economy.) Politics is something that I’ve always found interesting, but I’ve never been able to form a coherent opinion about most things pertaining to it since I’m so poorly informed.
Keeping up-to-date with current events can be difficult if it’s not very high on your priority list. Also, as a student, if your major isn’t something along the lines of political science or international development studies, it’s all too simple to fall back on ye olde “I have too much studying to do” justification. However, I believe that it’s time for some serious cutbacks in the Facebooking/internet TV watching department, which should give me hours of my life back.
In order to effect any sort of change among your family, your friends, your neighbourhood, or even a larger community, you have to start by changing yourself. This is where I’ll start.
